Terms

These terms are between you and NKATA LLC ("we"), the maker of Blue Text Relay. Our reseller and merchant of record is Paddle.com, so your purchase is also covered by Paddle's buyer terms.

Plain-language summary first, then the license. Have your own lawyer read it if it matters to you.

In short

You pay once and may use Blue Text Relay, including every future version and update, on the Macs you own or control, for as long as you like.
You get the source code, and you can do almost anything with it: use it, change it, build on it, and put it in your own products, free or paid. People who use your products don't need a license from us.
The one thing you can't do is distribute Blue Text Relay itself: selling, giving away or publishing the code as we provide it, or a copy that's only renamed, rebranded, reformatted or has the license check removed. A public GitHub copy of the unchanged repo counts. A product you build on it with meaningful functionality of your own can be shared under any terms you choose. Sharing the source privately with other license holders is fine.
If your product includes our code, keep our copyright notice in it and say it's based on Blue Text Relay.
Don't share license keys, and don't name your product Blue Text Relay or use our logo. Saying it's based on Blue Text Relay is fine.
There's no trial, and our policy is no refunds. If something isn't working, email us and we'll work it out. See the refund policy.
It's provided as is. It reads your own data on your own Mac; what you and your agents do with that data is your responsibility.
If you distribute the code itself or share keys, the license and every right under it end, including rights in anything built on it. Our liability is capped at what you paid.

License

Blue Text Relay License 2.0

NKATA LLC ("we") grants this license to each person or company that has bought a Blue Text Relay license ("you"). Paddle.com is our reseller and merchant of record, so your purchase is also covered by Paddle's buyer terms.

What you may do. You may use, copy, modify, build and run the software and its source code, and create works based on it, for any purpose, including commercial ones. You may put any part of it into your own products and services, free or paid, and distribute those products to anyone. People who use your products don't need a Blue Text Relay license.

The one restriction. You may not sell, license, give away, publish or otherwise distribute Blue Text Relay itself, meaning the software or its source code as we provide it, whether as a standalone product or as a substitute for Blue Text Relay. That includes copies that differ only by renaming, rebranding, reformatting or removing the license check. Sharing the source privately with other Blue Text Relay license holders is fine.

Publishing the source. Publishing the code unchanged counts as distribution, even for free: a public copy of this repository, for example on GitHub, is not allowed. A product you build on the code, with meaningful functionality of your own, may be distributed under any terms you choose.

Attribution. If your product includes parts of this source code, keep the copyright notice above in that code, and say in your README, documentation or about screen that it is based on Blue Text Relay (https://bluetextrelay.com).

Using Blue Text Relay itself. One license covers one person, or one household, on the Macs they own or control. If you deploy Blue Text Relay itself, or a copy that differs only in the ways listed under "The one restriction", to other people in your organization, each of them needs a license.

License keys. Don't share or distribute Blue Text Relay license keys. Products you build from the source don't need one.

Names and logos. This license doesn't cover the Blue Text Relay name, logos or branding. Don't use them as the name of your product or in a way that suggests we made or endorse it. You may say truthfully that your product is based on Blue Text Relay.

Updates. A license covers every version and update we release. Installing updates is optional; the software never updates itself. We intend to keep maintaining the software, but this license does not obligate us to release updates, add features or provide support.

Termination. If you breach "The one restriction" or "License keys", this license and every right granted under it end automatically, including rights in works based on the software and any rights you have passed on to others. You must then stop using and distributing the software and works based on it. The warranty and liability terms below survive termination.

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SOFTWARE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR YOUR LICENSE, AND WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR FOR LOSS OF DATA. The software reads data on your own Mac; what you, your agents and your products do with that data is your responsibility.

Nothing in this license limits rights the law gives you that cannot be excluded by agreement. If any part of this license is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.

Governing law. This license is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of your country of residence gives you protections that cannot be waived.

License key

Blue Text Relay needs a license key to serve requests and export. Without one, the server answers HTTP 402 and exports are off. Your key never expires.

Trademarks

Apple, iMessage and Messages are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries and regions. Blue Text Relay is an independent product, not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple. "iMessage" is used only to describe what the software works with.
